ESL/Adult Reader Collection

Students and tutors can check out a wide variety of books, magazines and media kits to practice English and reading. Thanks to generous grants from the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation and the New Jersey State Library our collection includes the Ingles sin Barreras media kits, Penguin Readers, GED and Pre-GED guides, citizenship materials and much more.

Please visit our Reference Room to select from our varied collection of materials for teaching ESL and adult literacy.

Adult ESL Classes in Morris County

Morris School District Community Adult School
Call 973-292-2063 for more information. Classes are held at Morristown High School.
English as a Second Language classes are offered free of charge through grants by the State Department of Education. Classes are offered at four levels on Monday and Tuesday nights from 6:30 to 9:00 pm and Saturday mornings from 8:30 am to 12:00 noon. Classes start in September and go through April but you may join the class at any time.

Literacy Volunteers of Morris County
Call 973-984-1998 for more information. The organization is located in Morristown. Literacy Volunteers of Morris County is a not for profit organization that provides one-on-one or small group tutoring in Basic Literacy and English as a Second Language to adults in Morris County.  LVMC has been serving Morris County for over 20 years. LVMC currently serves over 500 students. Students meet with a tutor for one hour a week, for a minimum of one year.  There is no cost to the student for tutoring or materials.

County College of Morris
Click on Continuing Educations (Non-Credit), then Register and Pay for Continuing Education Classes (Non-credit) and enter ESL in Search for (Key Word). 
The college offers classes in Morristown and on the Randolph campus. These ESL classes require registration and fees. Classes include an English refresher class, a 14-session ESL class and business writing for non-native speakers of English.

Morris County School of Technology Adult School Evening Programs (Under Programs, click on Adult Continuing Education)
Call 973-627-4600 for more information. The school is located in Denville, but also offers classes in Dover and Morristown. This free program is designed to improve the quality of English language and literacy skills of the foreign born adult student. The program is sponsored by the NJ State Department of Labor. Using a variety of workbooks, practical materials such as newspapers, forms and applications, and role-play of real life situations, students will develop reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. Classroom activities will cover English language skills, survival/life skills, workforce/employability skills, and family literacy. EEO/AA. Classes are offered evenings and Saturdays from September through April at Dover High School, Morristown High School (see above) and Morris County School of Technology. You may join the class at any time.

Wind of the Spirit Immigrant Resource Center (English and Spanish Site)
Call 973-538-2035 for more information. The center is located in Morristown. Offers non-traditional ESL, literacy (English & Spanish) and citizenship classes. Registration is required and there is a small fee.

Computer-Based English Courses

Workforce Learning Link 
Call 862-397-5600 extension 3975705 for more information. Workforce Learning Link is a holistic initiative created in partnership with the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development (LWD) and NJN Public Television to provide adult learners instruction in reading, writing, and math; communication; financial literacy; job search; and employability and life skills. The Morris County Learning Link is located in the One Stop Career Center at 13 Emery Avenue in Randolph and is available to welfare registrants, dislocated workers and other job seekers.

In addition to ESL skills training, the WLL also offers computer basic skills training with an emphasis on Microsoft Office applications. All of the classes are Instructor-led by a N.J. licensed teacher.

Foreign Language Books
