The Friends of the Library are a group of people who support the MMT Library by raising much-needed funds. They have been doing so for close to 90 years. Today, they run a successful, permanent Book Store, located in the lower level of the library.
Shop the Friends Book Store
Year round you’ll find 10,000+ fiction and nonfiction books, including new releases, classics, vintage editions, and signed items. We also have DVDs, CDs, puzzles, and more. All our items are donated by the community and offered at incredible prices! New inventory is added daily, so shop often.
Book Store hours are 10am-2pm on Tuesdays, year round, and 10am-2pm on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month, excluding July and August. You can see our book sale dates on the Library Calendar of Events.
Every day, books and media are for sale on “Norma’s Cart” in the Circulation room. Children’s books are also always for sale in the Children’s department.
Donate your books to the Friends Book Store and help your library! Please donate children’s, YA, and adult books in new or very good condition. We also accept DVDs, CDs, and puzzles.
We cannot accept books with out-of-date information, such as travel or business books published over four years ago, textbooks (excluding math and science), or encyclopedias. We also cannot accept small paperback books, magazines, or books with underlining, highlighting, or browned pages.
Leave your donations, two bags or boxes at a time, at the Circulation desk during open library hours. For large donations, please call the Library at (973) 538-6161.
Join the Friends of the Library
The Friends also raise funds through a membership program. You can join the Friends of the Library with an annual donation of $15 or more. You’ll receive a quarterly newsletter, invites to special Friends events, and the knowledge that you are helping your library thrive. To join the Friends, you can pick up a form in-person or email friends@mmt.mainlib.org.
The Friends of the Library raise more than $30,000 each year, and the Library relies on those funds to pay for many vital and beloved services and programs such as the Bookmobile, book clubs, chess club, yoga, qi gong, films and lecture series, and scholarships for staff.
The Friends also publish a quarterly newsletter “Library News” filled with updates, book reviews, upcoming events, and more. Check out the our latest issue: Summer 2026 Library News
Volunteer with the Friends
The Friends uses volunteers to help run the Book Store on Tuesday and Saturday. If you are interested in volunteering at the sales, please email us at friends@mmt.mainlib.org.
