George Washington was certainly central to The Revolutionary War. In many ways, so was New Jersey. For example, the three iconic war paintings Washington Crossing The Delaware, Washington Rallying The Troops and The Battle of Princeton, are all New Jersey events. So what brought about George Washington spending more time in New Jersey than any other colony during the Revolutionary War?
This President’s Day Holiday lecture covers Washington’s military career starting in 1754 as a 21 year old major in the Virginia militia, a brief history of the Revolutionary War, and the Revolutionary military battles and winter encampments in New Jersey. It concludes with popular Washington “facts vs fiction” (including THE TEETH …were they really made of wood?) This Zoom program is a co-presentation with the Long Hill Township Library.

Our Presenter: Joel Farkas is a popular lecturer on historical topics through Lifelong Learning institutes at Rutgers and Fairleigh Dickinson University. He is a docent at Washington’s Headquarters in Morristown and is a Recipient of the National Park Service Centennial Volunteer Challenge Award.
