Our “Pride Month Film Series” moves online!!

You asked for it, you’ve got it! The Library has been celebrating LGBTQ+ diversity and lives through our annual “Pride Month Film Series,” now in its fourth year. Since we can’t come together to watch these films in person this year, we’re taking the series online, but with some new twists. All the films are available FREE to Morristown & Morris Township cardholders through the Library’s subscription to Kanopy, a movie streaming platform (https://mmt.kanopy.com/). We’ll also set you up with links to reviews and trailers of the movies and to print and YouTube interviews with the writers, directors, and actors, in case you want to check them out before, or after, the two movie nights. We’ll then come together, talk about what we liked – or didn’t like – about the films, and share with each other about other films, foreign or domestic, that you and we have seen. By the way: We’re all busy, so don’t worry if you’re not able to watch either or both of each night’s films all the way through!

Our first meetup will be at 7pm EST on Monday, June 29, 2020. Our two featured films are “Rafiki,” a 2018 film from Kenya that has garnered a raft of great reviews, and which finally came available this year, and the movie “Heartstone,” a moving 1997 film from Iceland. The second meetup will be on Monday, July 13, also at 7pm. The movies for that night are still being decided, but we’ll give you the final details on (or before) the June 29th meetup.
How do you attend online? We will be using a free app called GoToMeeting. You can either dial in by phone or access the program via your computer or tablet using the GoToMeeting app.

New to GoToMeeting? Get the app at https://global.gotomeeting.com/install/739338205. GoToMeeting also helps you download the app with easy follow-along instructions at https://support.logmeininc.com/gotomeeting/get-ready, and it even checks to make sure your computer can support it!

Access to the program, via telephone or the app, requires an access code. Please email the program presenter at louis.munoz@mmt.mainlib.org and include in your email your full name and town of residence to receive the access code. If you have any difficulty downloading the app, you can email our Reference Desk for help at info@jfpl.org.

Looking forward to seeing you online! And Happy Pride Month, everyone!

P.S. If you are not a resident of either Morristown or Morris Township, we invite you to join us anyway! Please check with your local library to see if it has a Kanopy subscription. You might also want to check www.justwatch.com for other streaming options.
