No president has ever faced more difficult choices than Abraham Lincoln. The greatest of the many tough diplomatic, economic and military decisions during his presidency being the Emancipation Proclamation. This act would greatly affect the 1864 presidential election and the associated political actions of his time in office. Our Presenter: Morris County resident Richard Schwartz is a social studies educator who has won multiple awards over the course of his career, including the Mildred Barry Garvin Prize from the New Jersey Historical Commission for distinguished achievement in the teaching of African-American history. He is the author of the book “The Prairies on Fire: Lincoln Debates Douglas, 1858” and writes the Substack newsletter Common Sentences.
