Honorable Kenneth Collins Mackenzie will speak about Alexander Hamilton in Morristown at 2 p.m. in the library’s lower level Meeting Room. Alexander Hamilton was a colonel in the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. From 1779-1781 he was aide-de-camp to General George Washington. Hamilton was in Morristown for two winter encampments of the army: 1777 and 1779-1780. His administrative duties were demanding, but he found time after work hours for social activities, including romance. His courtship of Betsy Schuyler blossomed into marriage in December 1780. In addition to historical facts, you will hear anecdotal stories of his activities in town.
Honorable Kenneth Collins Mackenzie is a lifelong resident of Morristown. He attended local public schools, Princeton University and Rutgers Law School. He practiced law in Morristown for twelve years before becoming a judge of the Superior Court of New Jersey.
During his 33 years as a judge, he served in all trial divisions of the court and in the Appellate Division. Now retired, he is a student in the FILL program at Fairleigh Dickinson University where he also lectures on historical topics. He was recently honored by the State of New Jersey with a commissioned portrait that hangs in the courtroom he presided in his last twenty years on the bench.
