One of the Library’s most popular programs has been our “Foreign Film Series,” featuring a variety of entertaining and thought-provoking films throughout the year. Since we can’t come together to watch these films in person, we took the series online, but with some new twists. Ahead of each meeting of the “Foreign Film Lovers Club,” which meets the first and third Wednesday of each month, we’ll let you know the film we’ll be discussing.

Next up: “Frantz,” a 2017 film from acclaimed director François Ozon, in which he thoughtfully probes the aftermath of World War I through the story of Anna, a young German woman whose fiancé Frantz was killed in the war, and Adrien, a Frenchman who survived the war and mysteriously appears shortly after the Armistice in the small German town where Anna lives with Frantz’s parents. The two meet and make a connection, but are met by resistance and resistance by the small community still reeling from Germany’s defeat and the many losses endured.

All the films will be available FREE to Morristown & Morris Township cardholders through the Library’s subscription to Kanopy, a movie streaming platform (https://mmt.kanopy.com/). We’ll come together, talk about what we liked – or didn’t like – about that night’s film, and share with each other about other films, foreign or domestic, that you and we have seen. By the way: We’re all busy, so don’t worry if you’re not able to watch the film before the meeting, or watch it all the way through! (Non-Morristown cardholders are also welcome to attend, but will need to find access to the movie through other formats, i.e. DVD or other movie streaming platforms.)

How do you attend online, you may ask? We use Zoom for our meetings, which can be used via telephone or through the Zoom app, which you can download from their website or from your preferred devices App store. Please email louis.munoz@mmt.mainlib.org and include in your email your full name and town of residence to receive the access code and link to the meeting. If you have any difficulties downloading the app, you can email our reference desk for help at info@jfpl.org.

Looking forward to seeing you online!
