The Foreign Film Series is back!
Pre-pandemic, one of our most popular ongoing programs was the “Foreign Film Series,” which featured films from across Europe, the Americas, Africa, Asia, and the Pacific Rim. Our online “Foreign Film Lovers Club” was born from lockdown and will still be meeting via Zoom, but we’re happy to announce the return of our in-person film nights!
We hope you’ll join us at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, September 20, when our featured film will be “The Quiet Girl” (“An Cailín Ciúin”) from Ireland. This beautiful 2022 movie, with dialogue mostly in Irish, is based on Claire Keegan’s “Foster,” a novella that has become part of the school curriculum in Ireland. Nominated for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film at the 95th Academy Awards, “The Quiet Girl” became the first Irish film to be nominated in the category’s history.
New for this month: You get to choose between watching the movie in person or via Zoom, as well as staying around for a brief group discussion. For the Zoom details, email louis.munoz@mmt.library.org, and whether at the Library or on the Zoom call, we look forward to seeing you!
